DIN 53579-1 TESTING MACHINE FOR FLEXIBLE CELLULAR MATERIALS – INDENTATION TEST ON FINISHED (IFD) PARTS
This standard specifies a method for the determination of the indentation hardness of molded foam foams with a minimum thickness of 10 mm. With the method, the indentation hardness can be expressed by
the impressing force in Newton, with a defined indentation path;
– the indentation distance in millimeters, with a defined indentation force.
This method is suitable for testing directly on the molds.
The test laid down in this standard does not apply to the assessment of the hardness of profile strands made of soft elastic foams, which are commonly referred to as moss rubber or cellular rubber.
This standard specifies only the test methodology. The individual test parameters must be defined between the parties involved.
Measurement results determined according to this standard are only meaningful for the special shaped parts and must not be compared with results in which the test conditions are not identical (eg measuring point, indentation punch, indentation) or with results from other moldings. Relations with characteristic data from tests of other standards (eg DIN EN ISO 2439, DIN EN ISO 3386-1 or DIN EN ISO 3386-2) must not be established.
It is impermissible to convert the forces determined into compressive stresses with reference to the area of the indentation plungers used.
This standard is used exclusively for the inspection of prefabricated parts and differs accordingly from the standards DIN EN ISO 2439, DIN EN ISO 3386-1 and DIN EN ISO 3386-2.
